☁️ Creating for ourselves is hard
are you hannah montana? / strega nona winter / moscow mule nails
Hi friend,
Gonna keep this one short because it’s a Friday afternoon when I’m sending you this, and it’s finally sunny and warm again in New England after such a grey and gloomy week.
I posted on Threads earlier this week about how I’ve been struggling with committing to home design stuff, even though I’m a creative person + love interior design.
And so many people (+ many professional designers!) responded with how it’s often so much harder to create for ourselves than for others. Isn’t that wild?!
I do think a large part of it – as many people pointed out – is the fear of failure. At some point, we need to just start the thing. Especially if that thing is hanging something on a wall that can most definitely be taken down and rehung somewhere else.
But also when all of your creativity is being exhausted for other people, it can be hard to save a little for yourself.
So, here’s me saving a little for myself and going into this weekend determined to hang stuff on walls, finish the DIY project, and just do the thing instead of letting my brain overthink it.
(You have full permission to call me out on this next week if I don’t.)
with warmth + love,
N

In the process of complaining about my lack of creativity toward designing our home, a term kept coming up: analysis paralysis (or decision paralysis).
It’s the reason we can’t decide what we want for dinner, whether to go out or stay in, which photo to hang on the wall, or even what to watch on Netflix.
It can often set in when your brain gets overstimulated or overwhelmed. But, good news! There are things we can do about it! Here are the tips I’m gonna try + how they relate to my issue at hand:
Set a Deadline - I will finish this DIY project this weekend!
Limit your Choices - I’m gonna do it old school and just buy whatever photo frames are in the thrift store I go to!
Take a Breather - I’ll take a 5 min break (minimum) whenever I’m feeling overwhelmed!
✌️ until next week
