weekly r.e.p.o.r.t. / solar eclipses are wild / about the dune popcorn bucket
Hi friend,
Last week, I was offline for some personal stuff. On Monday, I took the day off to experience solar eclipse totality (for the second time in my life!) from Plattsburgh, NY. On Tuesday, I came back to work with my inbox full, Slack pinging, and tasks overdue.
I share this with you because I think, often, we think on the surface that other people have it together. That other people appear to be doing all the things successfully.
This is simply an appearance. You’re only seeing one side of the story – the one people want you to see. If things look like they’re going well, then I’m doing a good job maintaining the illusion.
Every time I see someone else and think “wow, they’ve really got it together! what am I doing wrong??” I think about this. I think about how I truly have no idea what’s going on with them beyond the small snippet I’m seeing.
That’s not to say you should be hiding the chaos or challenges brewing underneath. But rather, we should recognize that these challenges exist for everyone, regardless of whether they’re outwardly apparent.
Remember that every time you find yourself admiring someone else’s seemingly easy life. Your life might seem that way to someone else.
with warmth + love,
N

I was in a virtual co-working session yesterday where I was introduced to the concept of vorfreude, the German word for “the anticipation of joy” or the opposite of schadenfreude.
Of course, right after that, this article fell into my lap about the concept of 30 zero-effort ways to fill your life with joy.
Here are a few of my favorites:
Turn routines into ritual, like savoring the process of your first cup of coffee
Come off autopilot and consciously look forward to moments like petting your dog
Treat yourself to brief excursions and small indulgences (this is one I’ve subscribed to for awhile)
Make time for silence and look forward to the peace that comes with it
✌️ until next week
