Hi friend,
How's your week been?
How does the week ahead look?
When we think of mindfulness, so often we hear about staying in the present moment. I think that's great and we could all use that more.
But sometimes, I feel guilty for letting my mind wander off from the present moment.
It's like I'm assigning myself homework to stay in the moment, and anything less than a constant focus on the here and now isn't good enough.
I think trying to stay grounded in the current moment helps when my mind is zigzagging across time. But sometimes you need the casual stroll into the future or the past.
There's nothing wrong with that. You don't need to guilt yourself into staying in the current moment.
Sometimes it's fun to think of the future. Sometimes it's helpful to remember what we've learned in the past.
You don't need to feel guilty for leaving the here and now.
We'll all be right here when you return.
with warmth + love,
N

📚 The Click Throughs
Long-form reads for the marketing geek + content creator
Axios: Tipping is taking over the internet
Get ready for the creator economy to grow as more and more social networks start adding payment options.
New York Times: Jake Paul Promised Them Fame. Was It Worth the Price?
Okay, I hate Jake Paul. But I love Taylor Lorenz. Her investigative piece on Jake Paul's recent controversy, his misconduct with his Team 10 hype house, is a must read.
Cybernaut: Cashing in on Clubhouse
This is a long read but it sums up a lot of my feelings about Clubhouse and their messy rise to popularity. Can the creator wave overcome the grifters? We'll find out.
Slate: How Pfizer Became the Status Vax
A day before I got my first dose, I found myself landing on "Pfizer Gang" TikTok. I'm fascinated by how this has all been coopted by social media. My take? The best vaccine is the one you can get.

Back to basics. Whenever I return to mindfulness, I return to a Headspace meditation.

Things I’ve been loving that have absolutely nothing to do with marketing or business
Glamour: Orthodox Jewish Women Can't Sing In Front of Men. Instagram Is Giving Them a Voice. – What a wild, unexpected use of technology. I went down the rabbit hole on this one.
Shondaland: It's Time to Reclaim Your Weekends – Did you know you actually don't have to be productive every weekend? I know, I was shocked too.
LA Times: The casual racism of mispronouncing an Asian person's name – This article makes me so upset. Call people by their names!! Not sure how to pronounce it correctly? Ask them! It's 2021, we're done forcing people to fit their identities into boxes we define for them.
Forge: You Don't Need to Know What People Are Saying About You – If you're like me and have an obsession with the comments on your social media, this is for you. A much needed awakening.
Two of my favorite people got together to talk on a podcast! My friend Alexa was a guest on my friend Jason's podcast B2B Better to discuss digital accessibility. They're both such pros and I loved listening to this episode. Take a listen and I guarantee you'll get some valuable nuggets of information.

💭 Content Calendar
Ideas for you to take into your week ahead as a content creator
As content creators, we're often covering multiple jobs. Copywriter, creative director, strategist, videographer, photographer, analytics expert, the list goes on.
With how many areas of content there are, it's natural not to love every part. That's normal.
Pick the one area that you feel least confident in.
Can you lean into that area?
Sure, maybe you're not the most expert videographer. But you've got an outsider's perspective. You can approach it as a novice.
If you have to do it all, can you do it all in a way that makes sense to you?
