Welcome to the first issue ever of Your Social Media Detox!
This weekly newsletter was created for content creators by a content creator (👋) to give you a break from your timeline.
What you will find here:
Honest + transparent reflections on life as a content creator
Highlights of recent long-form articles on marketing + social
Products + resources to help you navigate your day-to-day
What you won’t find here:
Get viral quick schemes
Hustle culture
Long AF scrolls (newsletter fatigue, anyone?)
In future issues, I’ll use this area to dive into my recent thoughts, but with how exhausting the past few weeks have been (hi US election!), I’ll leave it here for now.
Thank you again so much for subscribing! I hope you enjoy this newsletter as much as I’ve enjoyed making it. Share it with your friends, content creator or not. If you have any feedback, my DMs are always open on Twitter or Instagram at @nicoletabak.
with warmth + love,

📚 The Click Throughs
Long-form reads for the content pro, marketing geek, or meme lord
Vox: Meet the professional memers
"So, you get paid to make memes?” is something we’ve probably all heard as content creators. These are the fascinating stories of people who actually do.
OneZero: The Social Media Managers Are Not Okay
Pass this one along to anyone in your life who doesn’t get what a struggle 2020 has been for us content creators (or be like me + cry reading it yourself).
Superorganizers: Amanda Goetz Doesn’t Believe in Balance
My superhuman friend Amanda goes through each day as a single mom of 3 kids, a founder of her new CBD company House of Wise, a half-time CMO of career growth startup Teal, and building her own content empire. Learn how she does it.
The Startup: What Your Social Media Manager/Team Wants You to Know
The article you can show your manager + colleagues when they make you feel like you just do social media 🙄

🧘🏼♀️ Mindful Moment
One actionable thing to get you through this week
Take a deep breath in. Hold for 5 seconds. Hold for 4 seconds. Hold for 3 seconds. Hold for 2 seconds. Hold for 1 second. Let it out. Repeat.

Things I’ve been loving that you might like too
Headspace’s Focus Music station is my WFH savior. Honorable mentions include the Up soundtrack + Animal Crossing music mixed with rain. Access the station as part of your Headspace membership (also recommend) or for free on YouTube. headspace.com or Headspace on Youtube
My favorite new morning routine includes these affirmation cards. Similar to tarot or oracle cards, but less committal. Pro tip: I leave my pulled card out on my desk next to me all day for constant reminders. amazon.com, $12.75 USD
I’m a content creator, not a designer. That’s why I was so thrilled to find this website Typewolf (yes, it’s old news). This website highlights trending typography so you can emulate that brand you’ve been obsessing over without spending hours googling. typewolf.com
Candles are a basic requirement for a calming starter kit. My friend Raphaela makes the best ones. My favorite? Her new W20 Collection with holiday scents galore + a holiday box set for the perfect gift. Bonus: She’s also a content/PR expert, so these candles are designed with our struggles in mind. softandstillco.com, $22-45 CAD

💭 Content Calendar
Ideas for you to take into your week ahead as a content creator
Creativity can’t tell time. As a content creator, you may find inspiration and energy beyond the hours of your 9-5 job. If you do, don’t shame yourself for it. Hold space for those creative moments to happen.
Create a note on your phone. Start a new inspiration bookmarks folder on Instagram. Start a new vision board on Pinterest. If you’re scrolling and inspiration strikes, capture it.
Allow yourself to feel the way you need to in the moment. Turn off when you need to turn off, lean in when you want to lean in.
